Altho the men's Nike Zoom Victory XC spike can be used for shorter distances, it was mainly designed for middle distance running, 400-1500m. However, you are able to switch the actual pins out when needed for other events if you so choose.

Yes but it is primarily supposed to be used for longer distances. I actually would recommend the Saucony Showdown. I have read that it is a very good sprint spike but you may want to do research on that one.

The men's Nike Zoom Victory XC spike is actually designed for middle distances, which is 400-1500 meters. There are specific spikes made for shorter distances. You could do a search on the website for Sprint Spikes. These are made for distances of 100-400 meters.

Mid-Distance college spike?

Would you consider these good spikes for a mid-distance (400m-1600m) runner at the college level? If not, which nike spike would you suggest?

The men's Nike Zoom Victory XC shoe would be a good middle distance track spike. There are usually a few variables that determine the best spike needed; (material of actual track, distance of race, actual event), yet, most middle distance runners will use a 1/4" spike. Altho the men's Nike Zoom Victory XC shoe has a 3/8" spike, these will work just as good as 1/4" spike. Sort of comes down to the runner's personal preference. You can search the website just by entering in "mid track spikes" and this will bring up quite a few selections for you as well.

The men's Nike Zoom Victory XC track shoe comes with 3/8" pyramid spikes. This should be sufficient traction for both indoor and out. If the need does arise, though, you would be able to get longer replacement spikes for when you do run outdoors.

Well....That depends on whether you are running with or without the spikes in. This is a true cross country shoe and is therefore designed to be utilized on dirt, grass, mud etc. If you are running over a course that includes pavement during sections I would suggest utilizing plugs instead of actual spikes and you will have no ill efefcts. Of course. if you are planning on utilizing the Shift as a road shoe I would say that's a bad idea.

I would recommend taking the metal spikes off before using the men's Nike Zoom Victory XC on pavement. Then the traction is adequate for hard surfaces.
