Questions & Answers for Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 - Men's

Question

Could this shoe be worn in a gym/court?

Just wondering if this shoe could be use for sprints in the gym and lifting weights in the weight room. Almost like cross-fit training indoors.

I suppose the men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 could be worn indoors while lifting or doing other activities. If traction is a number one priority though, you may want to try a different style. The outsole on this shoe is sort of hard and may not provide the best grip on hardwood floors. However, the outsole pattern is great for most other dry outdoor surfaces.

I'd like you to do a search online for 'Track Spikes'. Then, from the left hand column, choose 'equipment'. Here you will see the available replacement pins that should fit most of the track spikes we have stocked. For grass, you could use a 1/2" pyramid (sku #37229) , a 5/8" pyramid (sku #37259), or even the longer 1" Javelin Spikes. (sku #37199) Depends on your personal preference. As far as the actual shoe, most track spikes will have the option to switch out the pins for better traction. You should be choosing a shoe style based on the length of the races or the type of running you are doing.

The men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 does have 'nubs' on the bottom of the outsole that will help with traction in grass. Considering most sprint shoes use pins for grip, this style isn't a bad alternative if spikes with pins isn't your preference.

The bottom of the outsole of the men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 spike is a hard, durable rubber with some give to it...not like a typical hard, plastic spike plate that most spikes use. So, to answer your question, the outsole is 'softer' and should be able to be used on most indoor tracks. Since each venue can have their own stipulations, it'd be a good idea to ask your coach too.

The men's Nike Zoom Waffle spike is more for cross country running. For distances of 800m-1600m, simply type in ' Mid Distance Spikes' in the search box on the website and this will pull up a decent selection of spikes that are designed specifically for mid distance running.

The men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 spike has more support & cushioning than some other racing flats, but is still very lightweight and is a very decent cross country shoe or even a training shoe for shorter distances. For races from 1600m-3200m, I would think this would be a good choice if you prefer this design with the plastic nubs verses the pin configurations. That is why I pointed out the plastic nubs, so you are aware that you can not change these to the standard metal pins.

The outsole design on the men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 spike does not have the option to put metal pins into it. Where the spike pins usually go, there are hard, pointed rubber nubs. So unfortunately no, you can not put pins, or spikes, in the men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 spike shoe.

The men's Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 8 is more suitable for the cross country runner wanting a spikeless racing shoe for different terrains. I'll try to help you find choices easier. Simply type in 'Long Jump' into our search box on the website and this will pull up different styles of spikes for you in the jumping category. These can be used as Sprint spikes as well if you are looking for one versatile shoe. The difference is the spike plate. Sprint spikes may have an extra nub than the long jump shoe. Not always, tho. Sometimes they have the same number of spikes on the plate.
