When using the metal pins in the spike plate of the men's Nike Zoom Rival D 7, the more traditional, softer track is ideal. For harder surfaces the pins can be removed; but the grip will be minimal on platforms with no give or rebound qualities.

I will add this to my other response....
If there are no stipulations on what types of spikes you can use, and you feel comfortable enough in the men's Nike Zoom Rival D 7 spike to use for jumping events, then so be it. After all, in the end it will depend on personal preference anyway.

The men's Nike Zoom Rival D 7 spike is more ideal for long distance running. I would think if jumping will be your main event, then you would probably want a spike intended for that purpose. Jump spikes will normally have longer pins for better traction, a spike plate designed to offer grip where you need it most during take offs, and an outsole construction that will help 'keep you on your toes' so to speak during approach. Simply search online under 'Jump Spikes' to see our selection that would suit you better.
